The Year in Kimono started the way most good ideas form; with friends over some drinks. Thinking about the coming year – I wanted to add a ‘challenge’ to my resolutions and a friend suggested I spend the year in kimono. I had lived in Tokyo, Japan off and on for nearly 3 years and had yet to even wear a kimono, let alone make it my daily wear. But – I write a daily eco-fashion blog called http://www.magnifeco.com/ and am strongly committed sustainable and ethical fashion and this challenge would combine the two things I loved: sustainable fashion and Japanese culture. So I registered for Kimono School, got myself a kimono and the challenge began…
着物の一年」というアイデアは友人達と飲んでいた最中に浮かんだアイデアだっ た。「私が来年は何かチャレンジをしたい！」と言ったら、友達は「じゃあ来年はあなたが一年中着物を着る年にしたら？」と返事が帰ってきた。私は東京にはもう３年ぐらい暮らしているが、まだ着物は一回も着てみたことはなく、毎日着るなど考えてもみなかった。でも、エコファッションのブログ(http://www.magnifeco.com/)を書いているし、持続可能なエコファッションに関することは大好きだ。新年のチャレンジは私の興味 ー サステイナブルファッションと日本文化 ー の両方を満たしてくれるかもしれない。そして、着物を買って、着物学院に通う、新しい私の冒険が始まった！
